Habitat:
What's a wood turtles habitat like?
Food, water, shelter and space are all important characteristics needed for a good environment to be stable. Space will be an important characteristic because the animal will have the ability to do the niche it needs to do but at the same time enjoy the habitat it's in. Space will provide room for other animals to intrude and as to their Eco-system. Water will make a great impact on these animals...water sources will provide them with many reasons: digestion and metabolism, reducing body temperature, and removal of metabolic wastes. Depending on the seasons, the animals will enjoy certain foods better than others but with the space they live in, the animals get to know the types of food they will eventually be adapted by. Shelter makes a great difference on these animals...it provide or protects these animals from the bad weather! Shelter also provides protection from predators.
A niche is an animal's job. A niche allows other animals to correctly get used to their own environment because they have their own job. If an animal intrudes it should not affect the animals around them.
The problems that may occur with a niche is if an animal has the same job. A niche is a type of job "assigned" to an animal. If animals have the same job, they may fight over it, or in other words compete with each other. This is because each animal has a niche depending on what makes them and their needs. If two animals have the same needs, they will obviously fight because they don't want to loose what they have in their own environment.
