What are ways you could support your organism’s habitat to increase its chance of survival? 1.) Threat: Hatchling and juvenile survival is very low and the time to sexual maturity is long 2.) caused by hay-mowing operations, development of wooded stream banks, roadway casualties, unnaturally inflated rates of predation in suburban and urban areas, forestry and agricultural activities and pollution of streams.
Support/increase its survival: If there isn't such thing, to invent an object that can be attachable to the front of a law mower...it will beep loudly once it's 6 ft away from it, when banks are being developed find as many turtles possible to collect, people should pay more attention to what's on the ground-instead of just looking strait ahead of them, hang signs up so that people are reminded to be aware of animals especially species that are endangered. The pollution of streams may cause damage to the turtles because they may not reach the amount of oxygen needed, or nitrogen, nutrients, ect...so the turtles reach their environmental needs- not littering and not putting chemicals that are harmful to the environment which will help the turtles environment be better off. Since reproducing it's kind, and surviving at a low age is common- like it's stated above - being more aware of the environment and around us and weather we treat it in a good way or bad way, may increase or decrease the survival of the Wood Turtle. If we treat the wood turtles correctly for long and keep going the right path then eventually it won't be counted as endangered. Putting it in an environment that may help him or her survive may help instead of a stream that is polluted or field that can get run over by motors/ machines Food Sources Food sources that will help benefit the wood turtle is earthworms, slugs(the juice), leeches and snails, various insects, alder, willow, and birch tree's, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, cranberries (a lot of berries), and lastly, corn right off the cob. How it benefits the organism: This benefits the wood turtle because he or she is getting the energy it needs for its survival. It will benefit the organism but also its helps the envirment. If these wood turtles didn't eat the food sources such as earthworms or slugs or leeches and snails or even various insects, there would probably be more earthworms, slugs, leeches and snails and various of insects that are starting to become to much.
Water Sources Rivers and shallow lakes are some water sources of the wood turtle. This benefits the wood turtles water sources because first of all the shallow lakes and rivers will probably provide unpolluted streams or in other words clean water for him or her to drink from. Usually wood turtles water sources are where they live. These water sources are good because rivers will allows them to go past their territory along with the shallow lakes...if the lakes are big enough.
Covers and Places to Raise Young Slower moving, mid-sized streams are preferred (That have a lot of Ammonia). In addition, Waters above 70 degrees that's shaded and not polluted with non heavy currents (a little sun is good though) are good for wood turtles. Next, The stream bottom and muddy banks provide hibernating sites for winter. Lastly, Open areas with sand or gravel are used for nesting. This benefits the would turtles for covers and places to raise the young because high currents may damage the newborn. The sunlight will give the turtles enough heat for some energy but also not too much sun, (shady). Muddy banks will help the turtles for protection especially in bad winter storms. Sustainable Gardening Practices Nothing that's taking place is polluted- therefore- it will help the environment. Soil needs to be kept healthy- therefore- plants can grow- photosynthesis happens and leeches and insects will take the energy from the plant then eventually end up in a stream or river so that a wood turtle is provided with food.
Describe how the choices you made could benefit your organism.
Food sources will provide energy and a sustainable environment if it eats the correct foods. Water sources: rivers and lakes will make a great impact on wood turtles. It will help keep the turtles from acquiring sickness therefore these rivers and lakes they are in can not be polluted. Covers and places to raise young: water not to hot with much sun but shady enough that trees are hovering over and some sunlight is peaking through, will be healthy for these turtles. Muddy banks will help with protection and hibernation!!! Nesting will probably take place here too! Sustainable gardening practices: the way we take care of our soil and that nothing is polluted- this will bring the wood turtle a great environment because it brings a non-polluted stream (we took care of our place and because where we were didn't get polluted-it could not travel to a stream or river). Great soil will produce great plants and great plants or healthy plants will produce PHOTOSYNTHESIS. This photosynthesis will give the turtles the energy from the trees and get berries which have energy in them.
